How to Get to Munduk from Bali’s Main Tourist Areas

hot to get to munduk

Munduk sits in Bali’s northern highlands, which means it’s a genuine drive from almost anywhere else on the island — there’s no shortcut, so it’s worth planning the transfer properly rather than treating it as an afterthought.

From Ngurah Rai Airport (Denpasar)

Around 115km, roughly 2.5–3 hours depending on traffic through Denpasar. This is the longest transfer most guests do in one stretch — see our Munduk to Ngurah Rai Airport Transfer for a direct private option with flight tracking.

From Ubud

About 1.5–2 hours. This is a common combination — many itineraries pair a few days in Ubud with a couple of nights in Munduk. You can do it as a plain transfer (Munduk to Ubud Transfer) or turn the drive into a sightseeing day with stops at Ulun Danu Beratan temple (Munduk – Bedugul – Ubud).

From Seminyak, Kuta, or Canggu

Similar to the airport transfer — 2.5–3 hours, since these areas sit close to Denpasar. Book ahead, especially if you’re arriving in the afternoon when traffic through the south is heaviest.

From Lovina

The shortest option by far — under an hour, since both are in North Bali. See Munduk to Lovina Transfer if you’re pairing Munduk’s highlands with Lovina’s coast.

Should you rent a scooter instead?

Some travelers do, but the mountain roads to Munduk have sharp switchbacks, sudden fog, and long stretches with no fuel stations or phone signal. Unless you’re an experienced rider comfortable with mountain driving, a private car and driver is the safer, less stressful choice — especially after a long flight.

Travel times at a glance

  • Airport (Ngurah Rai): about 2.5 to 3 hours
  • Seminyak, Kuta, Canggu: about 2.5 to 3 hours
  • Ubud: about 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Lovina: under 1 hour

These are estimates. Traffic around Denpasar and weather in the mountains can add time, so build in a buffer if you have a flight or a fixed plan afterwards.

What to tell us when you book

  • Your pickup point and arrival or flight time
  • How many people and how much luggage
  • Whether you’d like sightseeing stops on the way

That lets us plan the pickup time and choose the right car. Transfers are priced per car, not per person. See the Munduk driver price guide for current prices.

Tips for the drive

  • The final stretch has many bends. If you get car sick, sit in front and tell the driver.
  • Arriving after dark or in fog? Let your accommodation know your arrival time, and ask how to reach them (see where to stay in Munduk).
  • Want to use the drive as a sightseeing day? The Munduk – Bedugul – Ubud route adds stops on the way.
